Why 80% of construction info still ends up in Word (and why that needs to change)

May 22, 2025

After more than ten years digitizing the construction industry with Finalcad, one thing is crystal clear: we got something wrong. Despite all the specialized software out there, 80% of jobsite information still ends up in Word, Excel, and Outlook.

And that’s no accident. It’s not a failure of tools. It’s a symptom. A symptom of something deeper: the need for freedom.

Every jobsite is unique—so are the needs

Vertical software does a great job—but in micro-niches. Each tool is designed for a specific workflow or a narrow step in the process. But a jobsite? It doesn’t fit into neat boxes. It changes daily. It demands adaptability and flexibility. And that’s exactly what Word offers.

Sure, Word is the default tool. We all use it—and we all know its limits. It frustrates us daily. We struggle with images, we paste in Excel tables, we cobble things together. But it’s flexible. We can do whatever we want. And in day-to-day work, that’s what professionals actually need.

We all spend hours on formatting

We all use Word. Or ChatGPT. And we spend our days copying and pasting. We’re all in the same boat—juggling five tools across three screens. We constantly adapt our workflow to fit the software, instead of the other way around. And that’s not how it should be.

A tool shouldn’t impose its structure on me.

The tool should adapt to me.

What if we started from a blank page again?

That’s exactly what we’re doing with there.

Our bet: bringing AI to the jobsite

Ten years ago, with Finalcad, we brought the iPad to construction. Today, with there, we want to bring AI to the jobsite—in a real, useful, everyday way.

But this time, we’re not starting with the process.

We’re starting with the document.

“Instead of software that generates a static document, we bring the software into the document.”

We keep Word’s freedom. We keep ChatGPT’s agility. But we add smart, dynamic business blocks. Augmented documents. Interactive. Alive. Not rigid templates you fill out reluctantly.

And the feedback we get says it all:

“Finally, a tool that adapts to MY jobsite—not the other way around.”

A Massive Market, a Rare Opportunity

Contech is evolving. AI is becoming real. The construction sector is ready—and we’re seeing a new wave of creative, committed, and passionate builders emerge. This is the moment to create the next generation of tools. Not just another app, but a true day-to-day companion that understands the real-world jobsite.

At there, we’re looking for visionary partners to build these next-gen documents with us:

  • 👉 Companies ready to build the future

  • 👉 Investors who believe in the wave ahead

  • 👉 Entrepreneurs who want to go faster together

Contech is just getting started. The market is huge—and so is the frustration. Now’s the time to act.

Let’s go.
