1. Operational definition + common mistake

Gestion Technique du Bâtiment (GTB, "Building Management System" or BMS) is a centralized supervision system that monitors, controls, and optimizes a building's technical equipment: heating, air conditioning, ventilation, lighting, utility metering, technical alarms. In this CR, the GTB is a trade in its own right that generates interfaces with every technical trade: each piece of equipment must send its information (alarms, status, consumption) to the central system.

Many assume GTB and the fire-safety system (SSI) are the same thing — in reality, the SSI manages fire-detection and fire-safety equipment (smoke extraction, technical power cut-off, fire alarms), while the GTB supervises the building's technical and energy performance. The two can be interconnected but remain separate systems with their own stakeholders.
